Alma Galli Martinkus

Last week I posted a photo of my Aunt Olga. Today I am posting a photo of my mother, Alma Galli Martinkus (Martin). Alma was known as Anna most of her life and at some point in the family's life, the last name was changed to Martin. How ironic going from a fairly unique name to a fairly ubiquitous name. Anyway, my mother was born in Brockton, Mass. on 8 November 1923 - the middle child! Here is a photo of my mother. Do you see the resemblance between her and her sister Olga? And if you knew me, you'd say I look like both of them.

Uncle Benny Sauka

So here's another mystery for me, my Uncle Benny Sauka, standing on the far right. He was my mother's brother but that's all I know about him. I haven't found any information about him. All I have is this family wedding photo, taken in 1972 at a family wedding. Actually posting this photo is a bonus because there are other members of the family in it for whom I have no information as well. Sauka was my maternal grandmother's maiden name. I know this is her brother because the bride in the photo is my oldest sister. So this is another post to the universe. Anyone look familiar to you?

Olga Mary Martinkus

My Aunt Olga was the oldest of the three children in the Martinkus family. She was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on 1 October 1917. The family lived in Brockton until sometime in the mid 1930s, when they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. I have Massachusetts Marriage Index that says she was married sometime in 1939 as listed in Cambridge, Mass. After that, the trail goes cold most probably because of her married name, which I don't know. Even any notification of her death is eluding me. So I'll post her photo here. I don't know anything about the photo - when or where it was taken. Aunt Olga looks relatively young, but other than that, I can't make any assumptions about her. Except that she looks like her sister, my mother Alma Shanks, and by proxy like me. A happy coincidence!
